The Oceano sand dunes area is recognized as the most extensive coastal dunes remaining in California. Bordering on a protected region, you might see arroyo willow, California Sagebrush, sand verbena, bush lupine and rare plants such as surf thistle and giant coreopsis.

People, horses and motorized vehicles all share the beach. The Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area is the only state park in California where you can take your vehicles on the sand. It features 1500 acres of beach and sand dunes and is open year-round. Activities on this beach include riding the sand dunes on all-terrain-vehicles, swimming, clamming, surfing, surf fishing, hiking, and bird watching. Camping is available on the beach as well as at Pismo State Beach in Oceano and the county campground.

Not-to-be-missed fun for the family is the Great American Melodrama & Vaudeville in Oceano. Performances run Thursday through Sunday year round with top-notch comedies, musicals and melodramas.
